A Business Built on Character and Contribution

Transforming the team into a growth-oriented group that sees people as the highest priority is my focus as the owner of Elder Law Guidance.

We all stand on the shoulders of others.

Recently I was asked, “Why do you do what you do?” The question wasn’t really about being an attorney, but instead, “What drives you to create a business that focuses on employee development, job satisfaction, contribution to the community and mentoring?”

For one reason, I believe that personal development always precedes professional growth. Every employee needs development and growth as an individual beyond their job skills.

Further, I determined long ago that because we spend more time with work colleagues than any other people during our day, we must have highly productive teams that we can rely on, that are supportive and that we enjoy working with. In other words, the culture of the business must be the highest priority.

My top priority as a business owner is to help my employees become their personal
best.
Whether in this business or in their future employment elsewhere. This focus transforms
the team into a growth-oriented group that sees people as the highest priority, where employees
feel valued and they contribute.

We award the person not the position. Each month we recognize and reward the
employee who most lived out one of the seven core values of the firm.
Each employee helps
develop their own growth plan, each has a sponsor and receives a stipend for personally
chosen development courses.

We also empower our employees to choose local small businesses to support through
additional revenue, legal services, and publicity. Each employee can help strengthen our local
community in a fun and productive way. This is called our “Waves of Change” Program.

We honor our past. As a business owner I partner with other like-minded local leaders to
focus on historic preservation. I’ve been renovating historic homes across Richmond for several
years now, in love with their beautiful stories, wanting to share them with anyone we can.

Come meet me and some of my dynamic team on our first historic tour of homes that my
good friends and I have renovated on Sunday, December 12th, from 2:30-4:30 pm. There is no
charge, but donations are appreciated and will support the Mt. Pleasant Historic Preservation
Project. We’ll give you in-depth tours of historic Mt. Pleasant, the A.R. Burnam House and
Lynwood (the Pattie A. Clay House), with refreshments provided. For more information, call
(859) 893-3898. The tour will begin at 2:30 at Mt. Pleasant with parking at the Madison Middle
School Gym parking lot.

Please also reach out to me and my staff for your estate planning needs. We are ready
to serve you. Call (859) 800-2481.

UPDATE: Given the overwhelming interest of our December tour, we are planning another tour sometime in late Feb. 2022! If you would like to pre-register for that event, visit https://elderlawguidance.com/event-calendar. Details to follow.

Elder Care Law

“I have been working with Scott Collins’ law firm for a couple of months. They have always treated me with respect and have been very knowledgeable in the Elder Care Law. They calmed all fears that I had during a traumatic time with my elder mother. If you need any legal help in the elder law field I highly recommend this law firm.”

G.C. | Richmond, KY

Elder Law, Trusts, Power of Attorney

“Exceptionally pleased with Scott and his team! They are very patient to explain complex ins and outs of elder law, Trusts, Powers of Attorney, Wills, risk assessments, etc. They patiently and carefully guide you through the Trust process, especially those of us unfamiliar with estate planning to achieve what YOU want. They are also willing to work with other estate partners like financial advisors, financial institutions, CPAs and family members in these efforts. We’ve used his services for our parents and now for our estate planning. Scott’s team is trustworthy, professional, thorough, receptive and knowledgeable. We highly recommend them!!”

“I tried to do everything myself and the bills got so overwhelming with parents in assisted living and the nursing facility. I quickly realized I was not going to be able to make the money work so that’s the point I started searching for help ….Scott sat down with us and made us feel very comfortable … we went over the options we had and the things he could help us with…. There was no pressure.”

S.H. | Kirksville, KY

Medicaid Planning, Probate

“We were dealing with a lot of emotions, a lot of really hard times and then you have to worry on top of that if somebody is going to hurt your family more…  I never felt that with Scott and his team … Every time I came in, I felt welcomed and at that time I really needed that because it showed compassion when you’re going through a crazy, Topsy turvy life.”

C.W. | Richmond KY

Veterans Pension, Estate Planning

“I would recommend anyone nearing retirement to talk to Scott and get what needs to be done prepared for the future … A lot of times we think the future is way off, it’s not. I found that out myself.”

Guardianship, Medicaid Planning

“He was right there with me all the time to help me take care of everything… I had a small farm my mommy and daddy left me, which is the first thing they wanted…. He saved me a lot of things I could have lost if it hadn’t been for him.”
